COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is a short course designed to teach you Basic Life Support skills (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation – CPR) including the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) so you can respond to someone who has collapsed. A cardiac first responder plays a critical role in keeping a person alive until the commencement of expert medical care.
Who should attend?
This course is specifically designed for those who wish to become a Cardiac First Responder at community level or those wishing to refresh their CFR skills. The course is designed for learning CPR and AED administration. This is suitable for healthcare and non-healthcare personnel.
This course is also recommendable for non-acute healthcare staff such as healthcare assistants, porters, cleaners, Community Responder Groups, Sports Clubs, Employees of public buildings, Parents, Teachers and Child Minders, General Public, Hospitality & tourism sectors and also people working in various healthcare settings including hospitals, nursing homes, home care, rehabilitation centres, day care centres, etc.
Course Content:
- Identifying the signs of a life-threatening emergency.
- How to respond in an effective, safe and appropriate manner to a life-threatening emergency utilising basic life support skills.

- FBAO – Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (Choking)

Assessment
This is a classroom based course delivered by a combination of theory lessons, videos and practice demonstrations.
The assessment will be skills based adhering to theory.
Course Duration: 2 Hours
Trainer: This course is delivered by approved PHECC instructor/s.
PHECC: The Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) is an independent statutory body who set the standards for education and training for pre-hospital emergency care in Ireland. The Council publish clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) and recognise institutions to provide pre-hospital emergency care training and education.
Certification: Successful course learners will receive a CFR Community certificate.
Certification Validity: 2 Years
Refresher Course: The learners must undergo refresher training every two years.
